Hendsbee, Mamie Amanda age 89 years of Port Hawkesbury
formerly of Auld’s Cove, Antigonish Co. Passed away on
Thursday, April 6, 2017 in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in
Hazel Hill, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Violet
Armsworthy and step-daughter of the late Wilfred
Hendsbee.
Mamie worked at Acadia Fisheries Fish Plant, Mulgrave till it
burnt down in 1971. She was a member of Port Hawkesbury United Baptist
Church. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books, watching game shows,
especially Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. Mamie loved people
visiting and having lunch. Most of all she enjoyed having picnics in
Boylston Park, taking Sunday drives and shopping. She had a great love
of cats.
She is survived by her daughter, Levina Isaacs, Mulgrave;
Connie (Darcy) Herman, Regina, SK; son, Garnald (Carol Ann),
Auld’s Cove; sister, Sadie Hendsbee, St.
Catharine’s, ON; brothers, Tom (Edith) Armsworthy, St.
Catharine’s, ON; Herman Hendsbee, Frankville; nine
grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mamie was predeceased by
her husband, Lawrence; son, Don; sister, Marlene Murray; brother,
Harold Hendsbee; son-in-law, Tom Isaacs, Sr.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2
p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in Port Hawkesbury United Baptist Church,
Pastor Jonathan London officiating. Burial will be in Southbrook
Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Mamie may
be made to Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, Port Hawkesbury United
Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova
Scotia.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of
Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may
