Obituary for Madeline “Mandy” Sutter (Pocrnick)
Peacefully, Mandy Sutter (Pocrnick) slipped away on November 25, 2017 at age 83. She is survived by her brother John Pocrnick of Hamilton and loving step-daughter Karin Sutter. She is predeceased by her husband Henry in 1995 and siblings Lola Cormier and Tom Pocrnick in 2017. Dear daughter of John and Mary Pocrnick (nee Furlan) of Sudbury.
Mandy was a character, larger than life with her infectious laugh that filled our hearts. She dared to be honest and voiced her opinions without any filters. She was genuine. A natural in the kitchen she enjoyed preparing hearty soups and her customary cabbage rolls – she took great pride entertaining family and friends. Of all of the pastimes that she enjoyed, blueberry picking seemed to be her favourite – she loved to spend hours in the bush at her “secret spots” filling up her baskets and then happily giving them away. Her generosity was endless.
Mandy grew up in a small town but in a large family, surrounded with love and devotion. She was very close to all her siblings and remained so all her life. She spent many years working in Sudbury’s downtown Pharmacy before marrying Henry Sutter and starting a new life serving Sudbury miners and business people at Henry’s Lunch in the Local Lines Bus Station on Durham Street. She continued in the restaurant business owning and operating the Chateau Guay Motel and then Sudbury’s Silver Beach on Long Lake Road.
Mandy was an avid reader, knitter and loved to engage in discussions on any given topic. She was well-informed and kept herself interested in world affairs. Mandy drew a crowd with laughter, talk and compassion. She was dedicated to her family and friends and gave selflessly without hesitation. A loving Aunt and a caring cousin, Mandy will be greatly missed by many. Special thanks to friends Rhonda, Margie and Rita for sharing their kindness and support through the years. The family would like to extend kind thanks to all of the nursing angels and amazing staff at Extendicare Falconbridge 3rd floor who provided exceptional care to our beloved Mandy. She has left her mark on the world and amazing memories for us to hold onto. The family has decided not to hold a funeral service at this time. Instead there will be a celebration of life in the summer of 2018. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated or the charity of your choice.
