Obituary for Luella Morrow
Luella Amy (McRae) Morrow was born on the family farm north of Ridgedale and beside the Carrot River on February 10, 1930. She was the first child of five born to Hartwell and Eliza (Arnold) McRae and Granddaughter to William and Sarah McRae and William and Harriet Arnold.
Luella attended school in Ridgedale and took her grade twelve in Tisdale. She was active in many sports, choirs, Sunday School and church activities, Explorers and CGIT as a girl. After high school Luella attended normal school in Saskatoon and taught in three locations; Sandwell, Valparaiso and Ethelton.
On July 23, 1952 she married Harold Kenneth Morrow, a young Ethelton farmer and thus began her life as a farm wife and helper. They were blessed with a family of four; Maureen Joyce, Warren Kenneth, Beverly Jane and Willard Allan.
There were busy days on the farm and raising a family. Gardening, berry picking, canning, raising chickens, milking cows, homemaking chores, sewing and transporting children to various activities and holidays. Luella was involved with Homemakers, the United Church and UCW, the Orange Lodge both locally and provincially, on the Home Care Board, and enjoyed some bowling, square dancing and curling activities. Harold and Luella enjoyed travelling and meeting people on trips to both Canadian coasts and into the states.
Harold and Luella lived on the farm beside the 44 Trail till 1974 when they then moved to a new farm site “up south”. Harold and Luella retired to Melfort in 1998. Harold passed away August 8, 2015 and Luella moved into Nirvana Assisted Living shortly after.
Luella passed away peacefully at RUH in Saskatoon on Saturday August 5, 2017 after surgery August 1, 2017 for a broken leg and a broken hip.
Left to treasure her memory are her children and their families, Maureen (Terry) Groat; Heidi Groat and sons Jordan, Luke and Dylan. Kelsey (Mike) Griffen, daughter Bronwyn and son Lachlan. Wanda (Reg) Ferland, son Kaiden and daughter Starla. Lisa Groat (Sean Adel). Warren (Irene) Morrow; Tara (Chad) Dobmier, Marcie Litzenberger and Dorian Litzenberger. Sean Morrow. Michelle Hall, daughters Macy and Morgan, Michael Darmokid. Beverly (Greg) Malmgren; Ryan Malmgren and sons Kolby and Gray. Jodi (Brian) Taylor and sons Thorin and Terek and daughter Corrie. Janine (Trevor) Taylor son Austin, daughters Aliyah and Alivia. Willard Morrow. Sisters Viv Craig and Shirley Brodoway. Sisters-in-law Joyce McRae, Dorothy Morrow, numerous nieces, nephews and a few cousins.
Luella was predeceased by her husband Harold on August 8, 2015, infant grandson Gavin Groat (1974), Father Hartwell McRae (1978), Mother Eliza McRae (1985) Brothers Harvey McRae (1995), Rodney McRae (2008), Brothers-in-law Fred Craig (1996) and Adam Brodoway (2015), her father-in-law Charlton Morrow (1950), mother-in-law Charlotte Morrow (1968) Brothers and sisters-in-law Allen Morrow (1969), Ariel (2005) and Olive Morrow, Eva (1997) and George Clarke, Mary (2005) and Jack Woodburn.
