Born: February 27, 1926 Hoyerhagen, Germany
Louise was born in Hoyerhagen a small settlement 50 kilometres south of Bremen in Northern Germany. She was one of four sisters and three brothers. This was farming country so she worked hard in agriculture in the fields during her teens.
In 1948 she married Gottfried and had one son, Heinz. Due to high unemployment after the Second World War, they packed up and left for Canada in 1954 for a better life. She along with husband, Gottfried and son, Heinz did not know one word of English. They were sponsored by a farmer in the town of Gravelbourg in southwestern Saskatchewan. Things were not easy and Louise worked hard until they moved to Southey, SK, a little town ½ hour north of Regina. In Southey she worked in a hotel. In 1957 Gottfried along with his brother, Herbert and Herbert’s best friend, Hans, jointly purchased a farm southwest of Brandon, MB. Here she cooked and cleaned not only for her family but also for the other two.
In 1959 Gottfried got a job on construction in Winnipeg so the family moved again. Louise worked for a Jewish family cleaning their house. In Winnipeg they had many friends namely the Bauers, Oelkers, Singers, Hodabs and more. She was still in contact with the Bauers and Oelkers to this day. She loved to watch TV and read books in her later years.
Heinz married Monika who is Louise’s favorite daughter-in-law and they have three children, Brigitte, Connie and Randy. Her greatest love are the grandchildren, Brigitte (Robert), Connie (Andrew) and Randy. She watched them grow up and babysat them many, many times. She is blessed with five great-grandchildren, Ricky, Veronica, Rylen, Morgan and Brayden. Although she does not see them quite as often because of distances, she enjoys them whenever she sees them.
In 2002, after the death of her husband she moved to Calgary since all of the family lived in Alberta. She lived in an independent apartment close to Brigitte and great-grandchildren, Ricky and Veronica. After hip replacement and other health related issues she moved to Sherwood Park into Summerwood Village where meals were supplied, light housekeeping and home care. There were many activities and outings for her. Later she fell and fractured her other hip and since then has slowed down until she ended up in hospital for 8 weeks in August 2014. The end result being that she could no longer walk with a walker and now was in the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre in south Edmonton. She has adapted well to her new surroundings and the care and staff are wonderful.

Funeral Service Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Winnipeg, 370 McKenzie Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre, 4225 – 107 Street, Edmonton, AB T6J 2P1.
