Chesney, Lorna Kathleen. Lorna passed away peacefully at the Royal Oak Village in Lacombe on January 25 at 99 years of age. She was born in Red Deer on Dec. 31, 1917. She worked at the Royal Bank and then at the Weather Bureau in Edmonton. She married Doug Chesney on Aug 21st. 1946 and they settled in Calgary where Doug was co-owner of Chesney Hardware. Together they raised five children, bringing them out to the Gull Lake cabin for two months every summer, Doug joining them on weekends. In 1973 they retired and moved to their new Gull Lake home where they had a long, happy retirement together. They enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends. Lorna will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children Win (Bob) Settle, Marg (Paul) Harty, Mary (Bob) Blackwell, Evelyn Brooks, sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Doug, son Don, grandson Garrett and great-grandson Enzo. Lorna will be remembered by all as a very kind and generous person. She loved knitting, reading, gardening, doing puzzles and playing cards. She was an avid bird watcher. Loved and cherished by her large family, though sad for us, she was ready to leave this earth.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Royal Oak Village who took care of her in her last few years. There will be a service of remembrance and celebration of her life on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St Andrews United Church. Pastor Marco Ste. Marie officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Andrews United Church, 5226 51 Ave, Lacombe, AB T4L 1J6, or the charity of your choice.
