Linton was born in Edmonton, and when he was a young child, the family moved to a homestead in Fort Assiniboine, then later to Grande Prairie. He moved to Coleman with his dad when he was a teen, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Judy. They were married in Edmonton on February 10, 1968 and they raised three children. Before his illness, Linton worked as a pipefitter, and was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local Union 488.
