Obituary for Lenore Tanice Lyons (nee Schmidt)
It is with deep sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that Lenore’s family announces her peaceful passing on Sunday October 29, 2017 in Calgary, AB at the age of 56 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lenore is survived by her husband of 27 years Grant Lyons; son Anthony Lyons (21); mother Beatrice; brothers Bob (Kaye) and Doug; sisters Oreen and LouAnn (Mark); nephews Arlen, Octavian and Auguste; nieces Blayr, Dionne, Rachel and Marlena. Lenore was pre deceased by an infant brother in 1951; her father George in 1966; paternal and maternal grandparents; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Lenore was born in Balcarres, SK and lived on the family farm north of Lipton, SK. until the family moved to Saskatoon after the death of her father. She attended Brunskill Elementary school and Aden Bowman Collegiate where she graduated in 1979. Lenore had several jobs before deciding to attend the U of S and obtained her Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1989. She then moved to Calgary where she began her career with BP Canada and in 1991 she achieved her CMA Degree. Lenore and Grant were married on April 7, 1990. They welcomed Anthony on May 24, 1996. After an 18 year career with BP Canada, she took some time off before accepting a position with Keyera Corp. in 2007 where she worked until her diagnosis in September 2015. Anthony began competitive swimming in September 2002 and Lenore and Grant were actively involved supporting Anthony in the Cascade Swim Club and at swim meets across Canada and in the U.S. Lenore was loved by her family and many good friends. She was a positive and outgoing woman who saw the good side of people and easily brought a smile to your face. In the past two years of her illness, Lenore’s many wonderful friends and her family supported & loved her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Southwood Care Hospice in Calgary for their exceptional kindness and compassionate caring of Lenore in her final months. Lenore requested in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her name. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at The Willows Golf & Country Club, (382 Cartwright Street, Saskatoon, SK) from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Lenore requested that everyone wear bright colors to reflect a joyful Celebration of her Life. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Lenore’s family through www.evanjstrong.com
