Carruthers, Laurie Carlton – age 101 of Central New Annan, passed away at his home and went to be with his Lord and Saviour on December 26, 2017. Born in Oliver, Colchester County, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Irene M. (Wilson) Carruthers. Laurie was a hard working man all his life. He worked in logging camps from a young age, the Department of Highways, Ray Thompson’s Lumber Mill and then Bonnyman and Byers Lumber Mill from where he retired at age 78, and still operated his farm well into his 80’s. He was a Deacon in his Church and in his retirement, he enjoyed travelling all across Canada and the United States and to Brazil to visit with his son, as well as hunting and fishing. He is survived by his sons, Glen (Lynn), Central New Annan; Wayne (Beverley), Moncton; Terry (Jane), Brazil; Brian (Ann), Greenville, S.C.; Vayle (Donna), Charleston, S.C.; Vernon, Central New Annan; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Carruthers, Hilda (Graeme) Wilson and Helen (Richard) Hansen; brother-in-law, Brenton Beebe. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Joyce Beebe; a son in infancy; brothers, Leslie, Ray and Ralph; sisters, Muriel Blanchard, Sadie Hansen, Bernice Beebe and Hazel Beebe. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in Coulter’s Funeral Home (902-657-3288), Tatamagouche, from where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3rd with springtime interment in Bell Gift Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Forest Glen Bible Camp would be appreciated. Online condolences can be forwarded to the family by following the links on this web page.
