1930 – 2017
Obituary of Laila Wilson
~~Laila Ellen Wilson passed away at the age of 87, surrounded by family on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Grey Bruce Regional Hospital in Owen Sound. Laila Ellen Laine was born in Foleyet, Ontario on June 11, 1930.
Laila was the last of the Laine family having been predeceased by both parents (Martta and August) who had immigrated from Finland to Canada prior to Laila’s birth. Also predeceased by her brothers, (Olavie and Martin) and her sisters (Pearl and Paula). She was proud of her Finnish heritage.
Laila loved people and never met a stranger. This unique characteristic allowed her to support eight children as a single mother in the1960s selling Avon products. She was recognized as the top representative in Canada and earned the promotion to Avon District Manager requiring a re-location to Owen Sound in 1971. She retired from Avon in the early 80s. At a time in their lives when most people would be enjoying their retirement years Laila found her true calling and opened Christmas Wonderland at the The Fyre Place & Patio Shop. Laila believed that everyone should enjoy Christmas and always found a way to help someone enjoy the season who otherwise might not. She loved hosting various groups from local nursing homes for their special Christmas celebrations. Not only did Laila believe that ‘Jesus is the reason for the season’ she lived her faith daily.
She leaves behind her loving husband of more than 40 years, Robert (Bob) Wilson of Owen Sound. She loved her children, Martha Goddard of Toronto, Ian (Bonnie Comeau) Murdoch of Fredericton, Sid Cox of Garden Grove, CA, Ann (Eric) Feige of Toronto, Mary Jane (Ian) Seaman of Stratford, Laurie (Skip) Jones of Nashville TN, Martin (Leeanne) Wilson of Waterloo and Paul (Stephanie) Wilson of Owen Sound,.

Laila loved those that went before; step-daughter Deb Sutherland and grandson Travis (Loverboy) Wilson. We are sure that Travis is telling his grandmother some new jokes and they are both enjoying a good laugh together!….and we ALL loved her!
