McMeekin – Kathleen Claire Mary “Aunt Kay”
Life long Mattawa resident Kay McMeekin died peacefully at the Algonquin Nursing Home on Sunday January 29, 2017, at the young age of 99 years.
Born and raised in Mattawa she was predeceased by her parents Art & Margaret Kelly, (nee McMeekin), and her beloved husband Douglas McMeekin. For many years Kay was the custodian of the Wildwood Fish and Hunt Club, located in Quebec. She thoroughly enjoyed exploring the out of doors, fishing and birdwatching. She and Doug spent many hours searching for the next great fishing spot. A gifted and talented musician she played the piano, accordion, and saxophone and enjoyed a good dance. A dedicated Catholic she was a faithful and dedicated parishioner of Ste. Anne’s Church and sang in the choir there for many years. She loved children and was thrilled to be a sixth generation aunt. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family. She was dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews, especially Lena (Doug) McLaren, Kevin (Lisa) Kelly, Glenn (Sue) Kelly, Joe Jr. (Jean) Kelly, and in particular she will be missed by Erin (Brenda) Kelly. Friends are invited to share their memories of Kay at the Martyn &Sloan, Mattawa Chapel on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Ste. Anne’s Church at 11:00 am Thursday February 2, 2017. Cremation to follow. If desired donations to Algonquin Nursing Home, or the Canadian Wildlife Federation will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
