Obituary of Justin Venhuizen
Venhuizen, Justin – Passed away peacefully at Pioneer Elder Care at the age of 75, after several years with Parkinson’s Disease. Predeceased by his loving wife Frances (nee Roxburgh) for 41 years, and brothers Hidde and Enno (Doris). Beloved dad to Nicole (Troy) Wallace and Steve (Ashley Anderson). Cherished Opa to Jessica, Owen, Ryley, Austin and Alicia. Devoted brother to Grace (the late Bryan) Bastin. Will be fondly remembered by many loving extended family members and close friends. Justin came to Canada from Holland with his family in 1952, settling in the Renfrew area. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Masters of Computer Science, Justin spent his entire career working for IBM. He and his family lived in multiple places within Canada. Education was important to Justin and Fran and they provided their children with well rounded childhoods. Upon retirement, he and Fran built and ran the Cranberry House B&B in Niagara-on-the-Lake for seven years. He helped establish the Niagara-on-the-Lake Bed and Breakfast Association in 1996. Justin and Fran were also actively involved in the Shaw Guild, and they enjoyed cruising and travelling the world in the off season. He enjoyed playing blackjack, poker and bridge and was known for his luck with cards. He was always up for a rusty nail or glass of wine with a fine meal, and loved engaging in discussions about politics and “solving all the world’s problems”. Justin was committed to his family. His grandchildren brought him special joy.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the George Darte Funeral Home, 905-937-4444. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at North Bethesda Road Cemetery in Baltimore, Ontario at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Steve Ludzik Foundation in support of Parkinson’s Rehabilitation at Hotel Dieu Shaver.
