Life Story for Judith “Judy” McDonald
McDonald (nee Crozier), Judith Grace, age 69. Judy passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on October 20, 2017 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Judy was the daughter of the late Jean and Hubert Crozier, and following the death of her mother at a young age, enjoyed the continued care of her stepmother Emma, who died in 2012.
Judy is survived by her husband Duncan “the farmer” McDonald; daughters Angela Steeves (Gavin Neilson) in Western Shore, Nova Scotia and Pamela Steeves (Ken Evraire) in Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren Noah, Natasha, Elijah, Summer and Nate; brothers Rick Crozier (Ruth) in Brown’s Flat, New Brunswick., Jim Crozier (Joan) in Grand Barachois, New Brunswick and John Crozier (Karen) in Saint John, New Brunswick; sister Nancy Mahoney (Kevin) in Moncton, New Brunswick; brother-in-law Mark Pierce in Edmonton, Alberta; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Judy is predeceased by her beloved sister Deborah Pierce.
Judy retired in 1999 as Manager of the Immigration and Border Services Training Centre in Ottawa, Ontario to follow a life-long dream of opening the (best smelling!) retail store and bakery on Sussex Drive, Ginger N Bears. In 2005, she made the decision to close her shop and move to Nova Scotia to enjoy full retirement by the sea in Liscomb, which included gardening, baking and treasured adventures with her grandchildren. Judy had the very rare gift of making every person she met feel special and her vivaciousness, warm spirit, strength, and infectious smile will be dearly remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy #3, Lunenburg. There will be a private family interment of Judy’s ashes at the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery, followed by a public celebration of Judy’s life at La Teraz, 154 Church Street in Moncton, N.B. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 1-3 p.m.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the hospital’s hardworking team of staff and nurses, with special gratitude to Dr. Debra Gowan and Kerry South of South Shore Health Palliative Care Services for the exceptional care provided to Judy, and her entire family.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
