WALUSHKA, Joseph James
March 29, 1927 – December 18, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Father and Grandfather, Joe, at the age of 90. Joe was born in Wayne, Alberta and was raised in the Drumheller Valley. He moved his family to Calgary in 1954 as he pursued a career with the British American Oil Company which later became Gulf Oil, where he worked in exploration until his retirement. Dad played the guitar from an early age. His bands, which included The Rhythm Rogues and Tempo, were widely known and popular for many years. After retiring from Gulf, Joe left the stage to enjoy his greatest love, dancing. As an accomplished dancer he became a Gentleman Host for international cruise lines, travelling the world over the seven seas. Joe spent his later years enjoying his long time passions of dancing, music, gardening, Stampeder football, and time spent with friends and family. Left to mourn his loss are his children Rick Walushka and his wife Sonia, Carolyn Gardner and her husband Rob, and his grandchildren Hardy Walushka, Ryan Gardner and Cassidy Gardner. Joe is also survived by his sister Anne Walushka, his dear companion Sharon Wang and her family, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Al Walushka, our mother Elinor Bishop (Skytt), and his second wife, Laara Lansel. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca. Arrangements entrusted to EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 24223 Twp Rd 242, Calgary, AB, T3Z 3K2.
