Obituary of John Goldsmith
JOHN JOSEPH RUDD GOLDSMITH
John died peacefully in Toronto on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the age of 88.
John is survived by his children Mary; Neil (Leanne); Bridget (Shawn); Michael (Jacqueline) and their mother, Maureen Cannon (former wife) and their grandchildren Emily, Hannah, Cormac, Evan, Alex and Jonathan.
John was born on July 1st, 1929 in London, England to Reginald and Lily Goldsmith.
After graduating from Cambridge University, he started his career in London, England, then worked in Switzerland. He eventually moved to Montreal in 1956 where he continued working as a management consultant and started his family. He then moved to Toronto in 1965 where he settled. He ended his working days at a software firm he founded.
John was a passionate sportsman and especially loved rugby and squash. As a dedicated father he shared activities such as skiing, tennis, squash and sailing with his children.
He was an active member of St. George’s on the Hill Anglican Church, the Old Alleynians of his beloved Dulwich College and the Cambridge Club in Toronto.
The entire family would like to thank the staff at St. Matthew’s Bracondale House and White Eagle residence. Their compassionate care provided dad comfort and respect to the very end.

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th followed by a service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
