John Voetberg
January 10, 1936 – August 31, 2017
It is with profound sadness that we must announce the passing of John Voetberg on August 31, 2017.
We take comfort in the fact that he went to be in the arms of the love of his life, Martha on the 60th anniversary of the day they were married.
John will forever be cherished and missed by his daughter Debbie McAteer, his grandson Adam McAteer (Brittany Fewchuk), and great grandson Marshall.
He will also be missed by his sister Rita Bartmanovich (Peter), sister-in-law Janine Voetberg (Ralph), sister-in-law Tania Laurie (Jim), brother-in-law Melvin Bullee (Cheryl), his numerous nieces and nephews, his fishing buddies and many friends, especially John and Erica.
John was predeceased by his wife Martha, son Garry, brother Ralph, parents Hendrik and Dina, parents-in-law Anna and Abraham, brothers-in-law Jim and Peter, his nephew Darren and special uncle Bill (Margaret).
John grew up in St Adolphe, Mb on the family farm where he and Martha also started their family.
After running a successful welding business with his son Garry and partner Randy, he retired with Martha to the dream home they designed and built together in St. Andrews. It was there that many wonderful friendships were formed in the ice fishing village that popped up every year.
John had an amazing immagination that fed his ability to invent and build or fix anything. His wry sense of humour never faltered even until the end, and he always treated people with respect.
Having been a hard working man all of his life, he was still able to out work many a younger man even up until his 2nd heart attack in 2015.
His strengths did not stop at the physical, and he enstilled in his family many important values. John was so very proud of his grandson Adam for whom he loved being a mentor to and was confident that his teachings will now be handed down to Marshall.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place so that his other wish may be fulfilled-having a celebration of his and Martha’s life together.
An annoucement of this celebration of life will be posted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
