Obituary for John “Jack” William Rumsby
RUMSBY, John William “Jack” – Passed away peacefully at the Port Colborne Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the age of 85. Beloved husband for 62 years of Jackie (nee Blazetich). Cherished father of Rick Rumsby (Rosanne), Chuck Rumsby (Shelley), Terri Cooke (Steve) and Vicki Rumsby (Andy Huber). He will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Robert Rumsby (Rolande). Also survived by the “daughter of his heart” Peggy Fournier and the “sister of his heart” Edith Stortz. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Molly Rumsby, brothers Charles and Jim and by his grandson Shane.
Jack was a proud Firefighter for the City of Welland for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren, camping and woodworking. Above all else, Jack was a devoted husband and an intensely proud father, granddad and great-granddad. He leaves a legacy of what it means to live a life of kindness, integrity, hard work and family values and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Sunday, December 10th from 4 – 6 p.m. and on Monday, December 11th beginning at 10 a.m. Father Vijay Amirtharaj c.s.c. will conduct a funeral service in the Cudney Chapel beginning at 11 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 4 Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
