James Easton JAMIESON - July 14

JAMIESON, James Easton. Born in Kamloops July 14, 1922, Jim passed gently on Sunday, January 22, 2017.
Jim was a kind and generous human being who always tried his best to help those in need. He epitomized this as was witnessed through his deep involvement volunteering his time and energy for different groups including cubs and scouts, refugees, low income housing projects and in many different capacities for the Catholic Church when help was needed. His was a very direct, hands-on approach.… Read More » Although underage, Jim joined the army at 17. He managed to impress his commanders because he was very skilled clerically. This is the reason he was never sent overseas, perhaps saving his life. In early 1940, Jim met the love of his life, Margaret Patricia (Harris) and they married on November 28, 1942. Jim and Margaret raised six children, each one coming to deeply respect the values and commitment of both parents. Jim was a career soldier for much of his life until 1977 when he and Margaret retired to Victoria where Jim purchased a small jewellery store which occupied him for another 15 years. Jim and Margaret were both very active with refugee sponsorship work. Jim was president of St. Andrew’s Refugee Association for over 30 years, gifting him and Margaret with close and valued friends from all over the world. He also worked for many years as an usher at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Jim was predeceased in 2007 by his beloved Margaret, whose loss he never ceased to mourn. He is survived by his six children, Jim Jr (Elizabeth), Patrick, Rita (Randy), Christine, Tony (Shelly) and Gene (Mary Anne). He has 11 grandchildren, Patty, Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, Martha, Norah, Eden, Sam, Sean, Ella, Gabriel and three greatgrandchildren, Jamie, Poppy and Raine. Jim was a family man. He hugely admired all his children and never seemed to tire letting anyone and everyone know just what his children had accomplished. He dearly loved his children’s spouses and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He became known to his grandchildren as ‘ice-cream grandpa’. The world is significantly diminished with the passing of Jim. He will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. The family would like to thank the tremendous support of Jim’s friends, Marnie, Ogbai, Lorraine and so very many others plus the healthcare workers at Parkwood Court who cared so humanely and kindly for Jim during his last days.
Prayers and a memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Friary, 1076 Joan Crescent on Friday, January 27 at 7pm and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, 740 View Street on Saturday, January 28 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Island Catholic News.
