Passed away peacefully, at Trillium Ridge Long Term Care in Kingston, with family by her side on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Jacqueline Estelle Keene (Russell) at age 87. She was born in Chatham, Ontario in 1930. Her family lived in several Southern Ontario communities including Chatham, Oshawa, Kingston, and Port Hope. After graduating high school Jackie was employed at Mathews Conveyor as an executive secretary. Five years later she joined the R. M. Way Engineering Company in Toronto where she met her future husband Brian. They were married in 1957 and their two children followed, Elizabeth in 1958 and Brian in 1959. Second to her family was Jackie’s love for travel, which took her to the far corners of the globe. She would travel with her husband and other family members and friends taking in the culture and ambiance of the many countries she visited. Jackie’s other loves included, her dogs and cats, the arts and dancing. While living in Toronto the family had a lovely year-round cottage in the Thousand Islands where they spent all their summers and almost every Christmas. After retirement Jackie and Brian moved to Ottawa to be closer to family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Frederick and Jesse Russell. Beloved wife of the late Brian Keene and devoted mother of Elizabeth Murphy (Danny) of Kingston and Brian Keene (Elaine) of Dartmouth, NS. Loving grandmother to Kathleen Murphy; Jacqueline Brûlé (Mark); Sean and Ryan Murphy and Adrienne and Alexandra Keene. Cherished sister of Shirley Trott (Arthur); Barbara McGowan and the late Don Russell. Dear sister-in-law of Shelagh Keene and the late Patricia and Michael Keene. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the HANNAH FUNERAL HOME in Napanee at 123 Dundas Street West (613-354-3341) on Wednesday, December 13 from 1-3 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 2:30. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Sandra Leaver and Stacey Hickman of Kingston Dementia Home Services for their dedication, compassion and friendship to Jackie. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Garden Wing staff at the Trillium Care Community for the respectful care, devotion and comfort they provided to Jackie during her stay. Memorial donations made to The Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
