Obituary of Jack Gould
Jack Herbert Gould, affectionately known as ‘Bumpy’, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Innisfree House Hospice in Kitchener on Thursday, July 6, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born August 25, 1927 in Toronto, son of Harry Gould and Agatha Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Rose (Scheifele), and five children, Janet Child, Grant (Deborah) Gould, Gaye (Bruce Maule) Gould, Judy (Pedro) Fernandes, Peter (Debbie) Gould, 12 grandchildren Meghann (Seth) Harder, Lindsay (Mike) Plant, Brittany (Kyle) Seaton, Shannon Forrest, Nicole (Jay) Stewart, Brendan Forrest, Tyler Forrest, Regan (Colin Reiner) Child, Graham Gould Maule, Gregory Gould Maule, Hailey Gould, Madison Gould and 11 great grandchildren, Deshawn Forrest, Kasen Meier, Autumn Stewart, Merrick Stewart, Abigail Harder, Blake Harder, Owen Plant, Connor Plant, Wyatt Seaton, Tanner Seaton, Davis Reiner.
Jack worked at the Kitchener Waterloo Record for 35 years in display advertising before retiring in 1989. He remained closely connected to the Kitchener Waterloo Record throughout his retirement by faithfully attending the ‘Wednesday Club’. He served 5 years in the Royal Canadian Navy beginning in 1945, followed by 12 years as Naval Reserve Lieutenant, Executive Officer, RCSCC “Warspite” where he earned the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD). Jack had many volunteer interests, 15 years Waterloo Regional Auxillary Police where he served at the rank of Sergeant, two years Kitchener Public School trustee. In his later years, he had a wonderful time as conductor for eight years on the Waterloo Central Railway – Elmira tourist train.
Jack’s passion in life was travelling and food, especially chicken wings of late! He and Dorothy visited 50 countries, and Jack was a tour director for 10 years on bus tours in Canada and the United States. In his leisure time he enjoyed golf, curling and boating on Lake Muskoka.
According to his wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place.
