In Loving Memory
MAKEPEACE, Hugh R. – Born on the family farm near Basswood, Manitoba on November 25, 1926. After a full life, passed on at Rideaucrest home in Kingston, Ontario on November 5, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Finlay). Father of Drew J. of Penticton, B.C., Reid J. (Lyn Taft) of Athens, Ontario and Paul F. (Cristen Fidler) of Ottawa, Ontario. Dear Grandpa of Samuel and Isaac of Athens. Hugh was educated in Basswood Public School. After teaching for several years in elementary schools in Manitoba, he received his university education at United College, Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. He taught French at LaSalle Secondary School for 18 years as Head of Languages, retiring in 1986. Hugh had a happy retirement. He taught French at the Seniors Centre, gave fitness classes, and taught English to immigrants. He enjoyed running and finished three marathons. Hugh sang in several choirs, took part in musicals and especially enjoyed playing the part of Matthew in Anne of Green Gables.
A Celebration of Life will take place at ROBERT J. REID & SONS, “The Chapel on the Corner” , 309 Johnson Street, (at Barrie Street) on Saturday November 25, 2017 at 2pm. In place of flowers, memorial donations to Parkinson Canada, Rideaucrest Home or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
