Hugh Reginald Keddy
1932-2017
Hugh Keddy, 84, of Riverview passed away unexpectedly at The
Moncton Hospital on January 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving
family.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife, Gwen Keddy (nee Acker),
sons Ian Keddy (Linda), Shirley-Anne LeBlanc-Beek (Randy), and Darren
Keddy, grandchildren Adonica Keddy (Joe), Garrett Keddy, Jana Young
(Scott), Alysha Phillips (Ryan), Joshua LeBlanc (Katrina), Thomas
Keddy, Mia Keddy, as well as 7 great-grandchildren, brother James
Keddy (Libby), sister Eva Ogilvie, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Reginald and Robena Keddy, he is predeceased by
his brother Oliver Keddy, his sister Muriel Loxdale and his son
Stephen Keddy.
Hugh was born in Brandon, Manitoba, in 1932. He married the
beautiful Gwendolyn Acker of Berwick on April 2, 1955. He was a
mechanic by trade, as well as an instructor at the tech school in the
Valley. Upon moving to Moncton, he owned Northrup’s
Transmission until his retirement. Retiring proved too boring for him
so he set out to accomplish perhaps the most notable thing of his
career. He built Burro Hills Golf Course in Hillsborough, NB (now the
Hillsborough Golf Course), with his family, leaving a great legacy for
the community. Above all, his family meant the most to him and was his
greatest loving achievement.
Hugh never remained idle, always working on a project. His
friends and family never went hungry, as he grew an abundant garden
and shared openly. He was a problem-solver, who often tinkered in his
garage and around the house, fixing anything for his family. He was a
baritone with the local barbershoppers group for 28 years, a singer in
the Gospel choir, and an active member in his beloved church, Trinity
United. Always helping when he could, Hugh was a great friend to many.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, and fondly
remembered by all who knew him.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd.,
Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service
will take place at Trinity United Church on Friday, February 3, 2017,
at 1:30pm with Rev. Janice McLean officiating. Family flowers only,
please. The interment will take place in Kingston United Church
Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Hugh’s memory can be
made to Friends of The Moncton Hospital, The Heart and Stroke
Foundation, Trinity United Church or a memorial of the
donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at
