Obituary of Hendrika Van de Stouwe
Hendrika (Rita) Van de Stouwe (nee Van Harskamp) of Brampton, Ontario – “Oma” was a friend to everyone she met. She had a captivating smile and generated much warmth to those she met.
Rita passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on Thursday October 19th, 2017, in the palliative care unit with her family by her side after a 3 year battle with cancer.
Born in Alphen aan de Rijn Holland May 19, 1934 she married her husband Kars April 7 1954. Mom and dad immigrated to Canada in June 1960 to start a new life together.
Mom worked cleaning houses in Rexdale while her children were at school and then as they grew older worked as a clerk in The Holland Store Weston Road for several years. When they moved to Bramalea in 1972 she worked for Dominion Stores and later A&P / Metro in the deli department.
Rita and Kars retired to Wasaga Beach in 1995 and remained after Kars death in 2003 until November 2011 when she moved back to Brampton living at Holland Christian Homes.
Rita is survived by her son Robert, his wife Tamsin and grandson Corey and granddaughter Sarah, daughter Irma, her grandson Ryan and granddaughter Michelle and her husband Rob, great-grand daughters Ryleigh & Brooklyn.
The family would like to thank Dr Mohseni, the nurses at Holland Christian Homes and the caring doctors and nurses at Credit Valley Hospital.
Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd., north of Maple Ave., Georgetown 905-877-3631 on Saturday October 28th from 10:00 am until time of memorial service in the chapel at 11:00 am. Mom has been cremated and she will finally rest together with Kars. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Norval, Ontario.
