HEATHER JARVIS (nee McAllister) 1929 – 2017
On December 1, 2017 at Wellesley Central Place, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Predeceased by her parents Donald Grey McAllister and Jessie Margaret Southcott. She is survived by her adored husband Bob of 65 years and her brother Ian; she will be greatly missed by her children Ian, Stephen (Laura), Paul and grandchildren Peter, Doug, Chase and Deacon; she leaves her cousins Harry, Sam, Kim Malcolmson (nee Southcott), Marilyn Fergusson and Nancy Matthews (nee McAllister). Heather was a warm, loving and supportive Mother and very proud grandmother. A strong supporter of Trinity College School, she was an active member of The Ladies Guild. She also volunteered for TGH and IODE. She was a home maker but when the children left the nest she went about to do her own thing. She enjoyed an active career in ladies retail at the Jaeger store in Toronto’s Eaton Centre. Her success was due to her love of people, she always had something nice to say to everyone. Heather spent many summers at the Jarvis family cottage on Georgian Bay, surrounded by dozens of nieces and nephews (McCulloughs, Russells and Deeks) and where her reserved and unpretentious nature made her a very gracious four-time champion of the Minnicog Cribbage Tournament. She loved to travel, taking many trips with Bob and creating happy memories of good times over so many years. Having been brought up on a farm Heather was not accustom to boating and skiing.
Without a complaint she took to both with zest and fervor. Her passion: Crossword Puzzles – every morning with a pen, the day did not start until the Globe & Mail cryptic puzzle was completed. All will miss her infectious laugh and love of life. A special thank you to all of the staff at the Rekai Centre for their compassionate care and service.
A family service and internment will be held in Richmond Hill. A celebration of Heather’s life will take place at Northlea United Church, 125 Brentcliffe Rd., Toronto on December 9 at 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with remembrances at 5:00 p.m.
