Obituary for Harold Zaiser
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Zaiser, husband, father, grandfather and friend on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Brandon, Manitoba. Born in Kipling SK, on March 4, 1930, Harold was 1 of 8 children born to John and Amelia (Molly) Zaiser. He spent his early years on the family farm swimming in the “dugout” during the summer, playing jokes with his brothers, and looking out for his younger twin sisters. He first attended school in the Edenland District, near Kipling and then went to school in Whitewood when the family moved there after buying a dairy farm in 1943. Harold completed Grade 8 before dropping out of school saying “He knew more than the teacher”. He returned to school in later years, completed and received his Grade 12 Certificate. Harold first worked in construction and while working on a dam near Maple Creek, SK, met the love of his life Barbara Cook. The two were married in 1957 and had recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in April at home with family and friends. Harold worked in logging camps and in the mines in NW Ontario with his older brother Elmer. He settled on his lifelong career as a Heavy Duty Mechanic with Powell Equipment Ltd and moved to Brandon, MB in 1963. Harold enjoyed almost 30 years working as a Heavy Duty Mechanic before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed summers at Otter Lake with family and friends especially making bon fires and cooking kielbasa and roasting marshmallows with his grandchildren. Later he took up woodworking in the garage and in the more recent years he enjoyed working in his puzzle books and playing games on the computer. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara, sons; Dale (Vancouver, BC), Terry (Traci), (Thunder Bay, ON), grandchildren; Jason Rose (Brandon, MB), Christopher Zaiser (Thunder Bay, ON), Brittany Zaiser (Cambridge, ON); great-grandchildren: Reid and Nicholas and son-in-law: Kevin Rose, sisters: Ruth Daymond (Atikokan, ON), Marie Brown (Moosomin, SK), aunt; Irene Pusch (Windthorst, SK), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Amelia Zaiser, daughter; Heather Rose, brothers; Ernie, Elmer and Norman, sisters; Alice Busch and Verna Barr. The Funeral Service will be held at the Whitewood Cemetery, 137 3rd Ave, Whitewood, SK, on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. SK time, with Heather Mckewan officiating. Urn bearer will be Jason Rose. A reception will follow at the Whitewood Presbyterian Church Hall. All in attendance are considered honorary pallbearers. Memorial Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
We Miss You
Our hearts still ache
with sadness, and
many tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
no one will ever know.
We hold you close
within our hearts,
and there you will remain.
To walk with us
throughout our lives,
until we meet again.
