It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jan Green after a brief illness. Jan was born in Wiltshire, England, and was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Nancy, and her brother, Michael. She is survived by her nephew Darryl, great niece Freya here in Canada and her beloved cat Nimbus. Miss Green completed her professional training at the University of Southampton and held a Certificate in Education (with merit) from Weymouth College of Education. She joined the staff at Queen Margaret’s School in September 1975 and became a well-respected teacher as she ran the physical education department and taught junior school subjects. Before coming to QMS she taught in Surrey, England and at G. P. Vanier Senior School in Courtenay, BC. Miss Green held Level I coaching certificates in both field hockey and English equestrian and participated in courses and workshops in the Language Arts for the Junior School.
She was on several occasions awarded the Brian Craig Memorial Award for the female coach who best epitomized the qualities of sportsmanship and fair play.
Jan was a keen horsewoman and was well known in the local horse community. As a volunteer she served as Chairwoman of the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association, became involved with Community Policing projects and was deeply involved with the QMS Alumni Association. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Queen Margaret’s School, 660 Brownsey Avenue on Sunday.
