Gilbert Antonio Parent - September 29

September 29, 1944 – October 20, 2017 (age 73)
Gilbert Antonio Parent of Saint John NB slipped quietly from this world at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 20, 2017, in the presence of his wife, Debra and family members Chloe, Tracy and Wendy.
Gil, as he was commonly known, will be dearly missed by Debra and children Tracy Bastarache (JR St Coeur) and granddaughter Chloe aka Pirouette; Trevor Bastarache (Sarah) and grandchildren Kayden, Charlie, Emily and Anna; and Wendy Bastarache.
Gil will also be remembered by children Gary Parent (Erin) and grandchildren Victoria, Adrayan, Morgan, and Logan; and Larry Parent (Christa) and grandchildren Marckus and Marcie.
Gil was born in Ste Anne de Madawaska to Albert M. and Jeanne Parent who predeceased him, along with their children Fernande, Cecille and Gilberte.
Remaining to remember their brother are Louise, Micheline, Rolande, Francine (Jacques), Rene (Willa) Roland (Sandra) and Ranald; also many nieces and nephews.
Gil’s body has been cremated, and there will be a private family visitation.
No flowers by request, but donations may be made through Fundy Funeral Home as a Living Memorial to assist with the associated costs.
Gil was a Jack of all trades and spent many years driving a transport for Westmorland Homes of Saint John and Ayr Motor Express of Woodstock. It has been said that Gil could “park a mini-home on a dime”.
Gil was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 6770.
In his spare time, Gil was a Model Airplane enthusiast, becoming quite skilled in the construction and operation of his models, earning many trophies and medals to prove his skills.
Gil loved Country and Bluegrass music, and especially the recordings of George Jones, and the Sunday evening “tunes” marked the passing for the weeks.
His much-loved pet Petounne passed just a few months ago – forging on ahead to find the path for Gil to follow.
Debra and family would like to express their sincere thanks to the following who have been demonstrating their care and dedication during the past months.
To the Neuro Sciences 4BS staff at the SJRH – your consistent, excellent health care throughout the past three months have eased the journey we have travelled. Special thanks to Dr. Kolyvas, Dr. Evan Pugh, and the Respiratory, Infection Control Physio, Dietary and Palliative Care teams.
To the supervisors and Staff at Shannex Parkland Saint John – thank you for your months of care in assisting Gil to adapt to the many changes in his life situation.
And to the supervisors and staff at Directors’ Choice – your understanding and compassion have meant the world to me. OTOG, Deb
