Gertrude Anna Wathen (Priddis) - February 28

Gertrude passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones January 9, 2017 at the age of 86 years.
Gertrude was born in High River, Alberta to Harry and Florence. She was a vibrant free spirit with an incredible zest for life. Every day was a new day for her. Gerty exuded happiness and brought joy and love to all those around her. Children and animals were especially beloved to her. Gerty loved car rides, travelling and holidays and they always made her beam with delight… when she was setting out on a new adventure. Singing was always a favorite way of expressing herself and Gerty had a song for everything.
Gertrude spent 40 years at the Michener Centre in Red Deer before settling into her home with Deb and Harold Francis who became family to her. She spent the next 22 happy and laughter filled years with them.
Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews; her extended family Deb, Harold, Tamara, Jamie, Ariane and Joleen. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen, Betty, Rose, and Annie; her parents; and her dear friend Linda Wegener. Gertrude’s brother Harry has also passed two days after her.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. George Barr for his excellent care, to Donny Lien for being her special driver for over 20 years, to Brad and the FAIM Day Program in Okotoks, and to Leah McDonald for all her help and support.
Gertrude will be greatly missed by everyone at the farm and to all those who felt her endless love in their life.
