It is with great sadness on April 11, 2017 the family announces the passing of Gerald Angus Patterson of Mayerthorpe, AB, at the age of 84 years.
Gerald will be lovingly remembered by son, Dell; daughters, Ruthie Clark (Gerald Larson), Kelly (Bruce) Zerb and Connie Patterson; son-in-law, Dave Doolittle; grandchildren, Jody, Kari (Jeffrey), Dana, Paige (Bobby), Kara (Nagib) Trent (Suzanna), Brandy (Brent), Shaun (Annick), Tyrel, Curtis, Candace (Laurier), Kayla, Bryce, Brody (Shania) and Brock, Chandra, Brittney (Chad) and Morgan (Cathy); twenty-five great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis and Jean (Deanna); sister, Maureen (Joe); brother-in-law, Gordon; and many more dear relatives and friends. Predeceased by wife, Helen; son, Roger; daughter, Laurel; and son-in-law,Gary; parents, Angus and Constance; brothers, Fred and Lawrence; sister, Doreen; and sister-in-law, Judy
Gerald will be fondly remembered as a hard working gentleman who always had a smile for everyone. He loved playing hockey, horseshoes and enjoyed many camping trips with family, relatives and good friends.
Gerald was raised in Mayerthorpe and owned “Patterson Brothers Trucking” with brother, Lawrence, hauling grain and honey throughout the region. Gerald was particularly proud of hauling cattle for the Paramount Pictures Film, The Far Country (1954), and meeting filmstar, Jimmy Stewart. Gerald loved spending time with his family and when you stopped by to visit you would often find Gerald under the hood with his two boys, passing on his mechanic skills or teaching his children to skate at the local outdoor rink. He cherished his wife and children and was very proud of each and every one of his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Gerald’s Life will be held Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Community Hall, Highway 688, Blue Ridge, AB with inurnment in the Blue Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Extendicare Resident Council, Box 569, Mayerthorpe, AB T0E 1N0.
