Obituary for George Strachan
George Strachan – Aged 92 years. Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, carpenter, veteran. Passed away at Ross Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1924, George joined the Royal British Navy during WWII and served as signalman aboard a Tank Landing Craft. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 with only a few dollars in his pocket and a box of tools. George worked for over 30 years as a carpenter at the University of Toronto before retiring to Lindsay in 1990. He was an avid gardener and golfer. Predeceased by wife Alison (2012). Missed by daughter Pat (late David), son Andrew (Gwen), grandchildren Bonnie (Tom), Jennifer, Mary and Rachel, great grandson Eric and family in Scotland and England. Also remembered fondly by neighbours and friends at Crestwood Golf Club, the Royal Canadian Legion on York Street and the Alzheimer Society of Kawartha Lakes. Special thanks to the 4th floor staff at Ross Memorial. Visitation at Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay on Sunday December 2, 2017, 11am to 1:00pm. Service to follow. If you wish to donate in his memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Kawartha Lakes and would be appreciated by the family.
