MUZA
George Joseph Muza passed away at the Olds Hospital on December 1, 2016 at the age of 97 years. His gentle nature, warm smile and sense of humour will be missed by many. George was born at Empress, Alberta on June 8, 1919. He was raised on a farm near Binloss, Alberta, along with two siblings. After high school, George earned certification as a school teacher. He spent three years teaching before he married the love of his life, Veronica, with whom he enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage. In 1944, George moved to Foremost, Alberta and decided to go into business for himself. He set up a Radio Service Business that sold farm equipment on the side which he operated for ten years. Since times were hard, George closed his business in 1954 and returned to teaching which turned into a lifelong career. Over the years, he taught in Foremost, Manyberries, Brooks, Taber, and Calgary, until his retirement in 1979. He moved to Olds in 2000 where he has resided ever since. George fell in love with the violin when he was only eight years old. He struggled against what his teachers called a “tin ear” but won the battle and became a very skilled fiddle player. He won many fiddle contests and enjoyed playing with fiddle groups and at jam sessions for the rest of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica, his parents, Joseph and Anna, and his brothers James and John (Jack) Muza. He leaves behind a daughter Linda (Horst)Weber; son, Gerry (Leslie) Muza (Leslie); grandchildren Marliss (Randy) Weber, Jennifer (Gregory) Stone, Randall (Ciani) and Tamara (Jamie) Morris; great-grandchildren Grace and Spencer Stone, Jhovyia Muza, Sophie and Claira Morris; his sister-in-law, Marg Muza; four great-nieces Terry Muza, Holly Clifford, Berni Wood, and Toni Muza. Funeral Mass was held on Thursday December 8, 2016 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Olds with Celebrant Father Adam Daniluk. Interment followed in the Olds Cemetery.
