Frances died peacefully with grace and dignity on December 24,2016 at Evergreen Baptist Campus of Care, White Rock in her 98th year. Her loving husband Peter was never far from her side especially in the last few challenging months. Born to Terrence and Madeleine Boudreau in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia as Françoise Johanna, the second of 7 children with four brothers and two sisters Frances learned quickly to look after herself. She was very proud of her Acadian background and could trace her ancestry back to 1640 when the family first arrived in Nova Scotia from France. Frances attended school to Grade 12 in Wedgeport, and then the Sacred Heart Convent in Meteghan, Nova Scotia. Afterwards it was nursing at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where she learned to enjoy everything Scottish and where she learned to speak English with a Scottish twist. After several years working for the Digby Health unit she attended the University of Ottawa for Public Health Nursing and on graduation joined the RCAF as a Nursing Sister. It was while stationed in Ottawa that she met Peter, also in the RCAF. They were married 14 April 1952 at the RCAF Chapel in Rockcliffe, Ontario, after both had returned from service on the Korean Air Lift. Frances saw much change in her lifetime and through it all she was adventurous, independent, resourceful, determined, intelligent and always eager to learn something new. With her natural charm, warmth, bright blue eyes, and attractive smile Frances easily made many friends and had an irresistible “joie de vivre” that attracted people to her. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her three sons and a perfect partner for Peter during their 64 years of married life. She enjoyed a good drink of scotch and a challenging game of bridge, but her passion was her gardens. When Peter finished his air force duties they moved to Vancouver where Frances carried on in Public Health Nursing until the time came when she was needed to help Peter in the insurance business. They worked together until retirement in 1989 when they moved to the South Surrey/Langley area. In retirement, they travelled the world. Peter was the idea man and Frances carried the map, money, passports, did the translating and asked for directions. Their lifetime of adventures together produced many friends, insightful observations, and stories from around the world. They played bridge, gardened extensively, and enjoyed Emma, their 1948 TC MG and motorcycling. She is survived by her three sons Paul (Janice), Bruce (Siobhan), and John (Christine), and five grandchildren Sam, Patrick, Catherine, John and Alex, sisters Claire and Alice in Berwick, Nova Scotia brother Melvin in Metaghan, Nova Scotia, and honorary son Ian Wylie. Please join us for Mass and a Celebration of life at Good Shepherd Church, 2250 150 Street, Surrey at 11:00 a.m. on January 11, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations made to your local RC Legion Poppy Fund, Branch 6, 17567 57 Ave. will be appreciated in Fran’s honor.
