Obituary for Fern Wilkin (Adams)
Fern Wilkin ~ passed away peacefully at University Hospital, London on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in her 100th year. Fern Adelaide (Adams) Wilkin was the beloved wife of the late Wesley R. Wilkin (1978) and dear friend of the late Stanley Darroch (2006).
Fern is survived by her children Jeanette Chafe (Bill LaCroix 2015) of Etobicoke, and John Wilkin (Elisabeth Barrie) of London and brother Gerald Adams (Lydia 2016) of Calgary.
She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and the extended LaCroix, Barrie and Darroch families. She was predeceased by her mother and father Mary and Wellington Adams, brothers John Adams (Violet), Emerson Adams (Edna) and Aunt and Uncle William & Edith Darroch.
Fern attended the United Church in Harriston and worked as a member of the ladies group in her younger years. She took an active part in the community and held position of President of Beehive Institute and was a member of the Harriston Agricultural Fair Society.
She spent her final years in London close to her family. She retained her sharp sense of humor, wonderful smile, determination and stubbornness to the very end of her long life.
Special thanks to the 9th floor staff at University Hospital who all ‘adopted’ Fern as their own. During her very lengthy stay, they cared for her and our family in ways that went above and beyond the call of duty. We are forever grateful to you for your dedication to our dear Mom.
Friends may call at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Saturday, June 17th for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12:00 noon.
Interment in Harriston Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Harriston United Church or London Health Sciences Centre would be appreciated.
