Life Story for Evelyn Harland
Harland, Evelyn Margaret (nee Chouinard) 1920-2017
Evelyn Harland went peacefully to be with God on Friday, September 8th, 2017. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Mary), Dianne (Les), and Gord (Sandy); her grandchildren, Elmer, Chris, Mike, Nick, Kim, Jeff, Chelsie, Andrea and Tyler; along with thirteen great grandchildren; her sister, Lucille; and stepson, Ron.
Evelyn was predeceased by her: loving husband, Ron; daughter, Gloria; grandson, Ronnie; brothers, Clarence and Bob; sisters, Shirley and Marilyn; and recently stepdaughter, June.
Evelyn was born in a little log house on her parents homestead near Spruce Lake, Saskatchewan on March 31st, 1920, to Helen and Gordon Chouinard. Evelyn was the oldest of 6 children and left school at an early age to stay home to help out with her siblings as her mother was not in good health. Once married to Ron Harland in January 1949, they resided on the farm near Frenchman Butte. It was shortly after that when her youngest sister, Marilyn, came to live with them from age 5 to 14. In April of 1961, Ron suffered his second heart attack which was fatal. Four months after Ron died, her youngest sister, Marilyn, was killed in a car accident while riding her bicycle at the age of 18. Evelyn lost her eldest daughter, Gloria, in July of 1982, from cancer, and her grandson, Ronnie, followed in August of 1983. Evelyn then devoted her life to providing for her four children, she worked endlessly and never complained.
Evelyn will be remembered by so many for her talents but mostly for her amazing knitting and gifted cake decorating! Her hands were always busy; her heart was always kind, loving and caring!
Evelyn was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend to many! She had a strong devotion to family, community and her faith.
Evelyn’s family wishes to extend their sincere thank you for the excellent care she received in both the Paradise Hill Care Home and the St. Walburg Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paradise Hill Care Home, St. Walburg Health Centre or charity of one’s choice.
