Google Maps little brother to Muriel Jane Bennett (Bob “Butchie” Bennett, his dear friend, d. 2011). Dear brother-in-law to Al MacDonald and family of Scotland, and to Donald and Vi MacDonald of Brockville. Loving father to daughters Elizabeth Vervaeke (Glenn), Margot Glover (George), Jane Todd (Allan), and stepdaughters Nancy (Darren), Donalda (Geoff). Uncle Jack to niece Patti Barton and nephew Rev. John Bennett, Uncle John to Jan & Bill Park, Charlotte Stanshall (Larry), Mark Smith (Susan), Laurie Botham (Phil), and Cam & Wendy Smith. Grandpa to Adam Vervaeke (Laura), Andrew Vervaeke (Lauren), Jordan Vervaeke, Alison Vervaeke (Nate), Dylan Todd, Faith Glover, and Joshua Dimmelow. Great-grandfather to Connor and Grace Vervaeke.
A diligent employee of 39 years at Bell Canada, John treasured time away at the family cottage on Muskoka’s Raven Lake. An enthusiastic if occasionally cantankerous golfer, John was also blessed with an encyclopedic memory for mostly tasteful jokes. He also used his legendary memory during his doggedly determined crossword solving. GO LEAFS GO (take that, Len)! Talented organ player and proud bearer of the Cunningham tartan, John was a devoted congregation and choir member at Knox Presbyterian of Waterdown since 1954.
The family’s sincere gratitude goes out to Doctor Randy Cross, John’s Doctor of the Soul and friend, Pastor George Robertson, and the deeply compassionate staff of Carpenter Hospice.
