Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory of Ernie
chappert, Ernest (Ernie) Paul – peacefully at Heidehof Home for the Aged surrounded by his devoted family on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years Doris Mae (Bauer). Ernie is survived by his much loved daughter Paula Ellen and son-in-law Robert Black as well as his sister-in-law Marion. Also predeceased by his siblings Philip “Doc” (Thelma), George, Adam (Emmy), Jack (Kay), Henry (Joan), William (Ann), Christina Gottinger and Tillie Ulmer, as well as these five members of the family Peter, John, Adolf, Elizabetha and Phillipina who died within ten days – Feb. 5-16, in 1912 in Melville, Sask. From a flu pandemic. Survived also by his many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on October 21, 1922 to the late Adam and Ottilia (Tressel) Schappert, the second youngest child of a family of fifteen. He came to St. Catharines in 1942, joined the army in 1943 – served with the Irish regiment in Italy. He started working with the Brewers Warehousing co. in 1946, retiring in 1987 after 41 years of service. Dad opened the first self serve Beer Store in the Niagara area at Lakeport Road in 1980. He was a dedicated member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Catharines. Dad was grampa to Bruiser and many other cherished family pets. Paula and Rob would especially like to thank our cousin Kent, aunt Marion and Dad’s godson David for all of their support during this difficult time. Special thanks to all the cherished residents of Luther Manor, the “Brewers Crew” and the ”Coffee Club” for their friendship, Pastor John Makey, as well as the exceptional staff of both Tufford Manor and Heidehoff Home for all their love and care. Ernie’s Family will receive visitors at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave. on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until the Funeral Service time at 7:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Church.
