Obituary for Mrs. Emma Genoveva Harris
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, Oma and aunt, Emma Harris, on November 19th after an eight-year battle with cancer. She had amazing strength in the face of adversity right up until the end. Emma was predeceased by her beloved husband, David, in 2012 with whom she was married for almost 50 years. They shared many triumphs, including the birth of their two children, Julie and Neil. Emma is survived by her daughter, Julie Harris (Jerald Fast) and Neil Harris (Margot), as well as her adored granddaughters, Elizabeth and Rachel Fast. She is also survived by her brothers, Bob Cunes (Leigh), Bill Cunes (Ginger) and her sister, Hanna Cunes (Doug Simpson), along with her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Emma was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela on February 9, 1941 where her father was employed by Royal Dutch Shell. She immigrated to Calgary with her family in 1952, where she made her home. One of the highlights of Emma and David’s life together was the purchase of lakefront property on Shuswap Lake in 1978, where they built their dream cabin. Many cherished memories were made at “the lake” year after year with family and friends.
Emma is truly loved by the Harris and Cunes families, and we will continue to pay tribute to her through fond memories. The family wishes to thank the wonderful and thoughtful care she received while in the Rockyview Hospital, as well as the Sarcee Hospice. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers we request donations be made in Emma’s name to the Calgary: Carewest Sarcee Unit Hospice, 3504 Sarcee Road SW, Calgary AB T3E 4T4.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Emma’s life on Friday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary (1009 – 15 Avenue S.W.).
