Elvie Alvina Smith
Elvie Alvina Smith (nee Morrison), resident of Beaverlodge, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Beaverlodge Hospital, at the age of 76 years.
Elvie was born November 3, 1940 at the Sexsmith Hospital. She was the 9th child of 11. She enjoyed milking goats and riding her horse, Silver. She was her mother’s helper.
Elvie attended school at MacHenry on Emerson Trail and then to school in Sexsmith for Grande 9, then Grande Prairie Composite High. She worked at Ophus gas station in Sexsmith and later, the Grande Prairie Hospital. Elvie was extremely organized, had beautiful hand writing, and put her family above all else. She loved to dance and play music.
She married Wesley Smith in 1957. Their daughter Debra was born in 1958 followed by their son Dennis in 1962.
Elvie is survived by her husband Wesley of 60 years; son Dennis (Deborah); grandchildren: Preston and Anna Smith; siblings: Leonard Morrison, Aileen (John) Patterson, Linda See, and Carol Allen; and sister in-law Joan (Curt) Cameron.
She was predeceased by her daughter Debra Smith; siblings: Christine Bryan, Edith Hogue, Donald Morrison, Percy Morrison, Myrtle Melnyk, and Neil Morrison; sisters in-law Elsie Smith and Evelyn Morrison.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
Memorial Donations may be made to the Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation (Box 480, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0).
