1952-2017
Edward Charles Griffin of New Maryland passed away peacefully
and surrounded by family on August 20, 2017 at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, N.B. after a courageous battle with
cancer. Born February 5, 1952 in Woodstock, N.B., he was 65 years old.
Edward is survived by his wife of 42 years Lucille (Cummings), their
son, Tyler Griffin (Christin Sheridan) of Fredericton, daughter
Courtney (Jared) Burns, and grandson Jacob Burns of Moncton, N.B.,
sister Norma (Barry) Scott of Woodstock and nephews Scotty and
Christopher. Survived also by mother-in-law Reta Cummings,
brother-in-law David (Irene) Cummings and nephew Michael,
sister-in-law Marilyn Cummings (Eric Mills) and nephews Sebastien and
Dominic. He was predeceased by his parents Norman and Ruth Griffin,
father-in-law Russell Cummings and nephew Christopher
Cummings.
Edward enjoyed a rewarding and varied 38 year career with
Woodstock Motors, Wood Motors Fredericton, James M. Hill High School
in Chatham, Youth Training Center in Kingsclear, Chipman Forest Avenue
School and School District 17 in Oromocto before retiring in
2011.
Throughout his life Edward contributed to the community by
coaching sports including hockey, baseball, lacrosse and ringette. In
retirement he enjoyed traveling and motorcycling with his wife, as
well as golfing and fishing. He also made significant contributions to
organizing and founding bridge clubs including The Last Duel (New
Maryland) and The Fiddlehead (Fredericton North).
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home
on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 4-8pm with the memorial service
taking place at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Thursday, August
24, 2017 at 1pm. Rev. Greg Geldart will officiate with Rev. Dr. Terry
Atkinson assisting. The burial will be private. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to a charity of the donor’s
choice.
