Obituary Overview
Cherished Husband, Father, Grandfather
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ed Brauer. Ed was the son of Anneliese (Almstädt) (2001) and Eugene Brauer (1982). Ed immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his mother joining his father who had immigrated months earlier. Canada was chosen due to its Christian values, lifestyle and European cultural background. Ed was proud of his Teutonic heritage and his Canadian citizenship. Ed was ambitious and passionate about business. He pursued a lengthy career in heavy oil initially working with Pacific Petroleum until 1966, Husky Oil in Calgary until 1969 and moving to Lloydminster thereafter where he worked on design and construction of heavy oil facilities. Ed was a self-made business man who was tenacious and enjoyed a lengthy career growing Universal Industries in Lloydminster for over three decades. He was passionate about business and enjoyed the satisfaction of putting a deal together. He was a kind, patient and understanding leader who held his employee’s welfare in high regard. Ed appreciated hard work and quality workmanship. He enjoyed socializing with employees and tradespeople that worked on his home. In retirement, he was happiest tinkering in his yard and garage, sailing the Gulf Islands, being with family and attending Calgary Flames and Stampeder games as well as his grandsons’ minor hockey games.
