Dr. George David Douglas
Dr. G. David Douglas, 77, of Moncton, passed away at The
Moncton Hospital on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Born in Halifax, NS in 1939
and raised in Amherst, NS, he was the son of Jack and Jean (Douglas)
MacDougall. David was a well known and respected cardiologist. He
received his medical degree at Dalhousie University, followed by a
year at the Heart Institute in Montreal. David was awarded an Honorary
Fellowship at the Institute of Cardiology and the Associated National
Heart Hospital in London, England, where he spent a year taking part
in teaching and research, upon his return to Halifax, David was an
Associate Professor at Dalhousie Medical School, while also working at
the Halifax Infirmary. In 1974, the family relocated to Moncton where
he opened his own practice in cardiology and he continued to mentor
students, interns and residents throughout his career, retiring in
2001.
David was an avid fly fisherman, golfer and owner of the
finest lawn in Tidnish, NS. He always enjoyed friendly competition,
but most of all enjoyed his family and friends, especially time spent
at the cottage.
David will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Ethel
(Caie); sons, Dr. Geoffrey (Janeen) of Saint John, David (Sally) of
Burlington, VT, Robert (Cindy) of Halifax, NS and daughter, Hope (Roy
Gouthro) of Truro, NS; eight grandchildren and two
“grandchums”; sister-in-law, Mary Douglas;
daughter-in-law, Luz Douglas and nephews, Ned, George and Andrew. In
addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his son, Graham and
brother, John.
A Service to celebrate and honour David’s life will
be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
(858-1995) on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow
in the Funeral Home Reception Centre.
