Born on March 1st 1917
Predeceased by his wife Anna Petersen and his siblings Nave George and
Vicki George.
Survived by his daughters Cathy (Shiva Singh) of London, Ontario and
Anna Marie (Jim Hancock) of Medicine Hat, Alberta and his sons Charles
(Sharon) of London, Ontario and Michael (Janice) of Saint John, New
Brunswick. His grandchildren Sanjay (Priti), Poonam (Mangala), Sarah
(Daniel), Alexandra (Jeff), Wesley (Leslie), Christopher, Katelynn,
Jaime, Conor (Elysia), Tori (Giuliano), Benjamin and great
grandchildren Chandan, Sushila, Nikhil, Anjali, Lyliana and Theodore.
Also survived by his sister in law Flossie George and many nieces and
nephews.
He graduated as valedictorian from St. Vincent’s Boys High
School in 1933. He attended both St Joseph’s and St Francis
Xavier Universities. As a young graduate from Dalhousie Medical
School, Freddie was posted as Regimental Medical Officer to the 86th
Bridging Company, a regiment of the 3rd Canadian Division, one of the
Canadian invasion forces. He landed on the shores of Normandy on DDay
plus 10.
Following the war he studied nephrology at the Montreal General and
established the first hemodialysis unit in Atlantic Canada.
He was a dedicated physician until his retirement at the age of 75.
His life was centred around faith and family and the care of his
patients. On his 100th birthday family and friends celebrated his
good health and long life.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home 100 Waterloo Street, Saint
John, NB (634-1965) with visiting on Monday, November 13, 2017 from
300-900 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St John
the Baptist Church, Broad Street at 12 noon on Tuesday November 14th.
Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those
