Douglas G. Wendt
Douglas Wendt passed away at his home in Winterburn, AB, on October 19, 2017, at the age of 74 years.
Doug was born to Herman and Lottie Wendt of Grande Prairie, and was a brother to 10 siblings. He was raised on a farm and, after finishing school, worked for Taylor Pearson and Carson and Lovseths before going to Red Deer and Calgary. He settled in Winterburn and worked many years at Scona Spring.
Doug became a member of the Canadian Legion and volunteered as needed. They became his extended family.
He returned to Grande Prairie for many years to take in the Teepee Creek Stampede.
He is survived by siblings: Dorothy LaForge, Bubbles Steinke, Helen Havener, Barb Wendt, and Ted Wendt; in-laws: Don LaForge and Mary Wendt; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Herman and Lottie; sisters Joyce Sipe and Irene; brothers Bill, Bob, and Neil; brothers in-law Rod Sipe, Roland Havener, and Tom Steinke.
Douglas was cremated, and his service will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 2:00pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion #281 in Spruce Grove, AB (100, 215 McLeod Ave.) with Bob Cotes officiating. Refreshments to follow.
A Memorial Gathering will be held in Grande Prairie in Spring 2018.
