Obituary of Doris Huffmann
Doris Mary Huffman (Charlton) – Suddenly at PRHC in her 95th year Nov. 25, 2016. Pre-deceased by her husband Robert Huffman and sister Madeline Hambly. Survived by her children David Huffman New Zealand, Jim Carter Huffman (Suzanne) Vancouver and Anne Young (John) Omemee, grandchildren Maya, Robert, Mary Anne and Helena, and great grandchild Lily. Doris grew up in Lakefield and Kawartha Park, marrying Robert Huffman in 1946. They lived in Peterborough until building a new home in 1974 on family cottage property at Long Point, Chemong Lake. She was a very self-reliant person who moved this past August to the Regency Retirement Residence in Lakefield. Throughout her life Doris was active, well-liked, and cheerful. She was a teacher and writer, working in community schools, teaching English as a Second Language at Fleming College, and producing publications on Kawartha Park and family history. Her hobbies were fabric art, swimming, walking, gardening and genealogy. She was a longtime member of the Peterborough Spinners and Weavers Guild and an active member of Trinity United Church in Peterborough and Bridgenorth United Church. Doris was a gentle soul who is greatly missed by family and friends.
