With heavy hearts, we the family of John Patrick (Donnie/Sailor) Jessome, are sadly announcing our fathers’ passing. He passed away quietly at Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Born in Sydney Mines on February 27, 1927, Donnie was the son of the late John F. and Angeline (Dolhanty) Jessome. He was formerly a resident of Bras d’Or Rd, Florence, and most recently at the Harbour View Hospital.
Donnie was coal miner with Devco for 41 years. He was an active member of his local union and a past president of the UMWA Local. He was a former member of St Stephen’s Parish, Florence.
He is survived by his children; Frances (Gordie) Brown; Marie Day, Steve, Patrick (Gerry); Debbie (Bill) Monaghan; Derrick (Heather); Donald (Sheila); Jimmy (Jeannie); Wanda (Blair) Gracie; Wendy (Hoss); Vaughn; Norma (Conrad) Shaw; Blair (Donna); Terry (Sandy) MacNeil; Denise (Dwayne); 41 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Donnie is also survived by his sisters Nelly (Don) O’Neil and Jeannette (Ron) Murphy.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his partner Ann Woods; the mother of his children, Theresa; his brother Stephen Francis (Dar); his grandson, Patrick; and his great-granddaughter Allie Grace.
Visitation for the late Donnie Jessome will be held at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place Wednesday at10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr James Oliver officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Florence, at a later date. A reception for friends and family will be held at the Florence Legion following the service.
