YELLOWFLY, DONALD GORDON (SA’AI)
November 2, 1942 – April 25, 2017
With Heavy hearts the family of Donald Gordon Yellow fly announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the age of 74. Donnie is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife; Hun Alphina, Daughters; Dana (Fay), Denise (Tracey), Fondella, Donna, Danielle. Sons; Lauren (Kendra), Carlin (Wayne), Dallas. his mother Virginia Medicine Traveler and siblings Sandra, Charlene, Rita, Myrna(Morris), Brenda, Letty, Sharon, Winston (Martha), Fabian, Jr., Allan(Jennifer), Gordon(Linda), Gary(Harvina), Reynold and Uncle/brother, Noel Yellow Fly. Also, his in-laws, Bernadette, Vivian, Robin(Gloria), Perry & Vernon. Donnie will also be remembered by his numerous Grandchildren and special granddaughter his baby boss Marley and by numerous nieces/nephews. (too many to mentioned them all) Adopted children; Murray (Carlene) Bear Chief, Shawn (Lori) Cutter, Myrna (Sugar) Youngman. Including Donald’s other extended family and friends within Alberta and Saskatchewan. Donnie was predeceased by numerous close and extended family, his parents Gordon and Ida Yellow Fly, his son, Donald Jr. Siblings Rita, Linda, Emil. His Grandparents Teddy and Jane Yellow Fly, Old Lady Gunny Crow and Mr. & Mrs. Dubois, in-laws, Mary Lillian Cutter & Bernard Big-Snake. Our Donnie went to the Old Sun Indian Residential School and later, went on to further his education and received his Bachelor of Social Work. He worked in the Land Claims department for many years before his retirement. He served on several boards, committees and commissions such as Land Claims, Social services, Elder’s Rep for Crowfoot and Old Sun school and Siksika Health Men’s Support Group. He was a spoke person for Siksika Elders. Donnie enjoyed being involved and was active with the Cursillo movement. He was the Cursillo Rector in 2011 with the theme song “Reach out & Touch The Lord”. Donnie was selected as the Vice for the upcoming TsuuTina Men’s Cursillo in May and his talk was on “Laity”. Donnie was also known for his kindness, hugging and a helping hand to many. After all his good lecturing to his brothers, sisters and to his many nieces & nephews, he would tease them. He was also very comical and always made you feel better after a good cry and talk. In his younger years, he played the guitar and sang good rock & roll plus country blues. His favorite bands were ZZ Top, Chuck Berry, George Jones, Vince Gill, & Bob Seger. Also, he loved his golfing and watching his favorite hockey team the “Calgary Flames”. Our heartfelt thank you to the nurses & doctors on Unit 58 -Peter Lougheed hospital and to all who came to pay their respects after his passing. Wake Services will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Piiksapii Arbour, Siksika. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 1:00 pm at Piiksapii Arbour.
