Obituary for Donald Frederick Beatty
BEATTY, Donald Frederick – Passed away peacefully at his residence, Royal Rose Place in Welland, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Horvat). Cherished father of James Beatty (Luana), Cheryl Durant (Evan Azzopardi) and Daniel Beatty (Adelina). Proud grandfather of Alexandria Phillips (Jeremy), Brianna, Sean (Pavla), Richard (Melissa), James, Benjamin (Marissa), Christopher, Julie Durant, Sheri Sammut (Steve) and great-grandfather of Karsyn, Emma, Hanna, Kyle, Colten, Nolan, Graham, Amara, Addison and Amaya. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Muriel Roberto and her husband Jim.
Donald was born in Welland and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He worked at Atlas Steels for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4. Donald loved horses and proudly owned and raced thoroughbreds. He will be remembered for his quick wit, unexpected sense of humour and genuine character. Above all else, he loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with them. Donald leaves a legacy of what it means to live a life of kindness, integrity, hard work and family values. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, November 4th at 12 noon with visitation two hours prior, beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation. A special thank you to Dr. Khandelwal, the Welland Hospital Dialysis Unit and to the staff and residents at Royal Rose Place for your sincere compassion and outstanding care.
