DE COCQ

DE COCQ, Laura Kathleen (nee McKee)

August 5, 1927 – December 12, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our dear mother, Laura Kathleen de Cocq (McKee) passed away peacefully on December 12 at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, AB.
Laura was a beautiful, vibrant, Oma, mother, friend always looking to help others. Her life was full of accomplishments; raising 4 children, protecting them from the “friendly” bears of Jasper, earning 2 degrees (BA from UBC and BSW from UofC), operating and teaching her own kindergarten, playing piano in concerts at home and in public, ensuring her children were exposed to all arts, music, and respectful education, family travel planner and so much more. Laura loved and was truly dedicated to her work at both the Baker Institute as Volunteer Coordinator, and her position as Founding Director of Churchill Park Day Homes in Calgary. Laura was loved by so many. The outpouring of genuine sympathy and caring from staff and residents at Bethany spoke volumes.
Laura is survived by her four children; Julian (Sharon), Tim (Deborah), Jennifer (Dean) and Nina; and her wonderful 11 grandchildren and 13 precious great grandchildren. Laura was predeceased by her husband Gustave de Cocq(1990), sister Louise McKee, and brother David McKee.
Plans for a private celebration of Laura’s life will be set for some time in the new year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Churchill Park Family Care Society (3311 Centre St NW Calgary, Alberta T2E 2X7 www.churchillpark.ca).
