It is with heavy hearts that the family of
Daniel Joseph Hayes of Southfield, NB
announces his passing after a short and courageous battle with cancer
on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital
surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sussex on August 31,
1958, a son of Connie (Mason) Hayes and the late Delbert
Hayes.
Danny is survived by his loving wife Connie McGinnis-Hayes;
son Bradley (Michelle); daughters Crystal Coates (Harry), Carla
Monahan (Sean); step-daughter Tracey Hanlin (Karl); brothers Warren
(Arletta), Everett (Dale), David (Erin); sisters Debbie Benson (Tony),
Sharon Townsend (Blair Drake), Jean Hayes, Thelma Folkins (Cecil),
Heather Dalling (Gregg); grandchildren Spencer & Kennadi
Hayes, Charlotte & Dahleigha Coates, Molly Monahan
and her expected sister February 2018; step-grandson Drew
Hanlin (Brianna Fournier); brothers-in-law Maurice McGinnis (Kelle),
Francis McGinnis (Georgie), Carl McGinnis (Patti-Jo); sisters-in-law
Brenda Wilkins (Wayne), Marlene McGinnis (Rene); mother-in-law Doris
McGinnis; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Besides his father, Danny was also predeceased by his infant sister
Valerie, maternal grandparents Bernice and Joe Mason and paternal
grandparents Warren and Iola Hayes and his father-in-law Gerald
McGinnis.
Danny was employed with Department of Transportation for 42
years, starting in 1976 has a casual mowing ditches and over the years
worked his way up to a Highway Supervisor II. Danny was very
conscientious about his job and went above and beyond. If
there was a call for snow Danny was always out to ensure the roads
were cleared.
Danny was a gentle soul who made friends anywhere and always
had a smile. He loved camping with family, driving his ATV,
working with his tractor on his brother’s farm and he was
very proud of his black dodge ram. He loved Christmas and
attended many family functions. He enjoyed spending time
with his grandchildren. He was loved by his family and will
be greatly missed by all.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life
Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where
visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1 to 4 and 6
to 8PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017
at 2:00PM from the Sussex Weselyan Church, 280 St. George Street. A
private family interment will take place following the service in
Sacred Heart Cemetery, Norton.
Donations in memory of Danny may be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
