Daniel Armstrong – 2017

1977~ DANIEL ARMSTRONG ~ 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Daniel Paul Armstrong announce his passing on May 5, 2017. Dan leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Colleen Armstrong (Brian Skinner); his daughter, Nixon and her mom Robyn Sykes; his grandmother, Elizabeth Dockrell; his brother, Andrew Armstrong (Aaron Bergunder); his aunt, Susan Sears (Wayne) and their children Chris and Justin and families;,his aunt, Morin Armstrong-Or and family; his uncle, Alan Armstrong and family, as well as many other very special cousins in Canada and the UK. Dan was predeceased by his grandfather, Kenneth Dockrell; his father, Ian Armstrong; his grandfather, Alexander Armstrong; and his nana, Eleanor (Nora) Tavener from the UK.
Dan spent most of his childhood in Medicine Hat with some time in Lethbridge and Toronto. He was a curious, adventurous child that loved to explore, meet people, create and build things. Dan’s infectious personality allowed him to make many friends. Dan also spent many hours “making things”. Dan’s love for building, constructing, and fixing things came from spending many hours with his grandparents.
As an adult, those qualities helped Dan gain employment in many different areas. He worked in the oil field, as a welders helper, at Irwin’s Safety, “the best job he ever had”, and then for himself on his own projects. Dan was generous and had the ability to relate to people from all walks of life. He was thoughtful, such as the time when he packed two extra suitcases of toys, books, and clothes for children when he went to Cuba. He loved a crowd and loved to meet people. His smile, sense of humour and personality made everyone he interacted with feel welcome. Dan was unwavering in his enthusiasm about most things and loved organizing and participating in everything from BBQ’s to music festivals. Most of all, Dan enjoyed his time with his daughter. The best day of his life was the day she was born. He loved every minute of being her daddy.
Dan was not without his challenges. He lived life on his own terms and sometimes he hurt others. He was not perfect, but he loved deeply and was loved. Dan will remembered by his family and friends as someone that was “larger than life.”
Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Dan’s life on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m at Hillside Cemetery. with Life Celebrant Lynett Getz officiating.
