Charles Mezzo – 2017

Charles Mezzo
1932 – 2017
Sadly, on June 10, 2017, Charles Mezzo late of the Leask District passed away at the age of 84 years.
Charles was born to Louis and Lydia Mezzo on June 20, 1932 at home in the Royal Lake District near Leask, SK. There were 5 sons and 2 daughters, one of which passed away as an infant. Lydia was helped by a midwife, and all 7 children were born at home. The family then moved further west in the Leask R.M. and Charles eventually took over the farm as the rest of the children grew up and left for other work. They had crops, cattle, horses and operated a small lumber mill on their land. Charles married Dawn Day from the Woodhill District in 1959. Soon after they moved closer to her family near Iroquois Lake and raised 2 children, Glenn & Myrna. Charles enjoyed playing the guitar, horses, and rodeo in his younger years and later enjoyed working with his cattle, farming, and spending time at home in the country. He also enjoyed attending his grandaughters piano and dance recitals. Due to health conditions caused by many strokes, Charles spent many years in the Wheatland Lodge Care Home. Even though everyday life was challenging he tried to participate in activities and managed to smile alot of the time. Over the years he was known by many names, Charles, Chuck, Charlie, Dad, Uncle and Grandpa. We will all miss you.
Charles is lovingly survived by his spouse, Dawn Mezzo of Shell Lake; his children, Glenn (Sherry) of Mont Nebo, SK and their children Tamara (Gord) of Saskatoon, SK and their children, Benn and Sam; and Shalaine of Mont Nebo, SK; Myrna (Randy) of Delisle, SK. Charles was predeceased by, his parents Louis and Lydia Mezzo; his brothers, Louis, Matt (Agnes), Frank (Jackie), Fred, and a sister Esther.
There will be a Graveside Service held for Charles on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leask Cemetery with Lorne Valuck officiating. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Leask Legion Hall.
In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Charles to the Wheatland Lodge Foundation (Box 130 Leask, SK S0J 1M0). Family and friends wishing to send private online condolences are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com
